Getting a carpet professionally cleaned is a time-consuming and pricy affair; it’s not something you want to have to deal with, or pay for every month. It takes a few hours for the carpet to be cleaned and if you use Star Services, it will be dry in a few hours instead of a few days.  You still have to stay out of the cleaner’s way, the furniture has to be moved,  and you have to keep off it while it dries, and plus there’s always the cost. In today’s economy, it makes sense to save by protecting your carpet between cleanings…

Luckily, there are some very easy, smart tips you can use, and some of them you might already be using! These common sense solutions can help you save both time and money while extending the life of your carpets.

  1.  Vacuum regularly. Vacuuming once a week will help extend the look of your carpet by picking up all those tiny particles like dust, dirt, pet hair, dandruff, and any other small scraps that are in your carpet. Vacuuming more often in the high-traffic areas like in hallways and around doors will also keep those places looking a new as can be.
  2.  Clean up spills before they become stains. If you spill some juice, soda, wine, dip, coffee, or whatever liquid on to your carpet, don’t just look at it, wipe it up! It’s a good idea to have a bottle of stain remover handy, they come relatively cheap and are effective if you follow directing. Relatively cheap to what, you might ask? Getting your carpets cleaned again right after you had them cleaned a month ago, or even worse, having to replace the carpet in that room altogether.
  3.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Ben Franklin said that, and he was a pretty smart fellow. The point is to be smart around your carpets; wipe your shoes before walking around, or even take them off to begin with, don’t put cups in places where they can easily fall over, I’m not saying to do some radical shift to your lifestyle over carpets, but just keep in mind how easy it is to dirty them and how much it could cost you.

Now there are more extreme methods like covering your carpets in a sheet of plastic or some form of Teflon coating, but simple everyday solutions will work out the best for both you and your pocket book. It is your carpets, your home, and after all; you want to preserve your home and carpet  in between cleanings as much as possible.
